Sauna complex

Relax & feel good
Escape the daily grind—welcome to an oasis of relaxation. Experience moments of cosy rest and complete relaxation. Soothing warmth and aromatic infusions bring you a deep sense of mental and physical balance, and allow you to forget the stresses of everyday life. Select from among our various sauna offers.

Temperature: approx. 85 °C
Air humidity: approx. 10-30%
10:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.

By sweating at high temperatures and low air humidity, your cardiovascular system and circulation are stimulated, the detoxification process is supported and the body’s immune function strengthened.

In the Tyrolean sauna, you can find three rows of benches on which you can sit or lie down. The higher-up the row, the higher the temperature.

Depending on the season, there are various infusions available in our sauna complex, for example the flowery 7 dwarves infusion, the common cold infusion, the Titanic infusion (in which we melt an entire block of ice), or our Altenauer beer infusion. Look forward to it.

Recommended use
In our Tyrolean sauna, you can relax either seated or lying down. Regular sauna-goers can sweat like this for up to 20 minutes. However, we recommend that those new to saunas only stay inside for 8-10 minutes so that the body can gradually get used to the hot temperatures. You should shower before each sauna visit and cool off afterwards. You can do this in a cold luxury shower, in our Kneipp basin or at our ice fountain. Following this, we recommend that you relax, covered up, in our tepidarium for at least 15 minutes. To obtain the greatest health benefits, you can repeat up to three sauna sessions in this manner.

Tip
Our sauna infusions are especially effective for both the mind and the skin when combined with a soothing massage or a facial cosmetics treatment. The Tyrolean sauna is not suited for those with arterial circulatory disorders, general cardiovascular problems, infectious diseases or flu-like infections.

Temperature: approx. 60 °C
Air humidity: approx. 40-50%
10:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.

The poachers of the Harz enjoyed perfect health. They kept their bodies in top condition and sweated themselves healthy at mild temperatures. Follow their example!

The gentle temperatures, combined with the natural aroma of spruce needles, enable a longer stay, making the process one which is beneficial to your health and nurturing for your skin. Our poacher’s sauna is gentler on your circulation and thus more suitable for those new to saunas or for those guests who do not tolerate strong heat well.

Different sauna infusions take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day, for example the “Harz bedrock infusion”, the “wild herbs infusion” or the “fresh forest infusion”, which has a fir and lime fragrance.

Recommended use
Guests are asked to sit when enjoying our poacher’s sauna. Generally, a longer stay of up to 30 minutes is completely harmless.

An example of how to best use the poacher’s sauna is to shower under one of our luxury showers, dry off and then enter the sauna. After you are finished, you should cool off in the Kneipp basin or our ice fountain. Following this, we recommend that you relax, covered up, in our tepidarium.

Tip
You can experience complete relaxation and tender-feeling skin when you combine a session in the poacher’s sauna with a gentle aromatic oil massage or a facial cosmetics treatment.

Temperature: approx. 45 °C
Air humidity: 85-100%
10:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Our crystal steam bath is the most beautiful of our steam baths. The combination of warmth and humidity creates an effect which relieves cramps, nurtures and relaxes.

In her time, Hildegard of Bingen created the basis for crystal healing, and was the first to describe the extensive effects and the application of crystals. One of the crystals which she mentions is amethyst. Amethyst is attributed with having a particularly purifying effect. What’s more, it helps against swelling and insect bites. Hildegard of Bingen was successful in using amethyst for skin impurities and for softening the skin of the face.

Its violet light and precious scent have a calming, soporific and stabilising effect. Amethyst stones belong to the quartz family and consist primarily of carbon, magnesium, clay, silica and lime.

At least one exfoliation takes place every day in our crystal steam bath alongside our infusion times between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Recommended use
Take a short shower before entering the sauna and take a seat. It is recommended that you remain inside for 8-12 minutes. Should an exfoliation take place here, the effect of the corresponding exfoliation will be explained by the sauna employee. Generally, exfoliations stimulate the circulation of blood to the skin, restore nutrients and serve to help regenerate the skin.

Tip
Our crystal steam bath is good for respiratory illnesses, has a calming effect on the nervous system, promotes strength & vitality, and strengthens the lungs. What’s more, it is very soothing after carrying out sport due to its muscle-relaxing properties.

Temperature: approx. 45 °C
Air humidity: approx. 80-100 %
10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Only available when booked in advance from our RoWital Health & Beauty Center!

This soothing full-body exfoliation guarantees rest and relaxation. The special herbal essences of the steam bath and the peaceful music make this application an unforgettable experience.

Three different, unprocessed muds detoxify, firm up and nurture the skin in the herbal steam bath. The white mud—with a very gentle grain—is used on the face, throat & décolleté; the grey mud is used on the arms & stomach; and the black mud—with a coarse grain—is used on the back & legs.

Duration: approx. 30 minutes
Price for the first person: € 40.00, each additional person: € 30.00
(can be booked for a maximum of 3 persons)

Recommended use
Upon entering the Rhassoul, you are enveloped by pleasantly warm radiant heat. After you have showered, rub yourself with the Rhassoul muds and enjoy the cosy atmosphere. Towards the end of the oriental care ceremony, a tropical rain sprinkles down on you. After you have washed off the muds, apply a caring, wonderfully-scented oil.

Enjoy this unique experience with up to 3 people. With skin as soft as velvet or silk, and with improved mental and physical well-being, you can now leave the Rhassoul bath. You will still be able to sense its caring and reconstructive effect for days after the treatment.

Tip
Following this, relax in our tepidarium and drink plenty of water in order to support the detoxification process.

Temperature: approx. 38 °C
Air humidity: 80-100%
10:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Fragrant plants have been attributed with healing powers since time immemorial.

This sauna, gentle on the circulation, conveys a feeling of well-being. Thanks to the manner in which it slowly warms up the body, the detoxification process is stimulated, and the body’s immune function increased. The various herbs emit their active ingredients into the surrounding area. This has a number of different, positive effects on your health.

Among other plants, we use eucalyptus in our herb mixtures. Eucalyptus essential oil is said to have antiseptic, mucolytic and cooling effects, which should help to protect you from the onset of a cold.

What’s more, we use lavender, which has a positive effect on sleep disorders and mental exertion; melissa, whose tannins and mineral salts fight viruses; rosemary, which is claimed to have a mood-lifting and invigorating effect; or lemongrass for a refreshing citrus scent.

Recommended use
We recommend a total of 3 sessions in our herbal steam bath, with a stay of 15-20 minutes each time. After each session, you should relax in our tepidarium for approx. 30 minutes. As in the other saunas, you should take a quick shower before entering the sauna and cool down after leaving it. The herbal steam bath is the optimal place to start when undertaking a soothing sauna day, as it allows the body to tolerate hotter saunas considerably better afterwards.

Tip
By combining this with our Roligio® “the healing power of wild herbs” full-body massage, you can strengthen your immune system.

Temperature: approx. 45 °C
10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Only available when booked in advance from our RoWital Health & Beauty Center!

Enjoy the aromatic herbal vapour created by hay from natural Harz meadows in a cosy hay steam bath or “Kraxenofen” for 2, and experience an effect which stimulates the metabolism and relieves pain and cramps.

For many centuries, the inhabitants of various mountainous regions brought hay down into the valley in baskets which they carried on their backs. These baskets were called “Kraxen”. On sunny days, the smell of fresh hay was particularly intense and, at the same time, beneficial to the health. These natural healing powers are also used in our hay steam bath.

Duration: approx. 20 minutes
Price: € 25.00 per person

Recommended use
During the session, you sit in heated seating niches. In these niches, a special hay flower cushion serves as padding, and you are seated in front of “Kraxen” which are filled with fragrant hay (recesses in the wall). A special cloak causes the warm hay steam to rise, warming the back, shoulders and pelvis. Thanks to the gentle warming, the typical hay scent is then released and can be absorbed through the airways and the skin.

Tip
The hay steam bath is recommended for those with heart and circulatory problems, shoulder and neck tension, pain in the limbs and the common cold. Not suitable for those allergic to grass pollen!

Air temperature: 27 - 37 °C
10:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

At approx. 45°C, infrared warmth can trigger a number of health-promoting processes within our bodies. This can have a positive effect on the body’s ability to heal itself, can increase resilience, and provide deep relaxation. Thanks to the low ambient temperature, the cardiovascular system is put under minimal strain. However, our infrared cabin enables intensive heating with a heavy amount of sweating, meaning that it is thus able to provide improved circulation throughout the entire body.

7 reasons to use a Physiotherm infrared cabin

  1. The immune system is modulated & strengthened.
  2. Circulation is increased and metabolism improved.
  3. Intense sweating supports the detoxification & decontamination of the body.
  4. Has a positive effect on tension.
  5. Supports the treatment of skin diseases.
  6. Supports those looking to lose weight.
  7. In terms of its effect, a session in a Physiotherm infrared cabin is equivalent to a light cardiovascular endurance workout.

The harmony principle
Colours can have a positive effect on our mood. As human senses usually require approx. 15 minutes to adapt to a colour, only one colour should be used in our Physiotherm infrared cabin per session.

  • Red: vigour, eroticism, vitality
  • Orange: drive, cheerfulness, joie de vivre
  • Green: calm, relaxation, satisfaction
  • Blue: tranquillity, peace, good sleep
  • Violet: inspiration, creativity, ability to think

Recommended use
Remove jewellery or other metal objects and drink a glass of water. Following this, take a shower to clean yourself and then dry off well. In the infrared cabin, place your sauna towel under the body and, bare-chested, adopt the intended sitting position. We recommend using the infrared cabin for 25 to 40 minutes daily.

Set the desired intensity, select one of the available colours, and try to relax and switch off. Should you feel a slight burning or itching sensation during the heat treatment, please reduce the intensity immediately. Before leaving the cabin, please disinfect your seating area. Following the treatment, we recommend taking a small break in our tepidarium. It is very important that you cover yourself up to do so, as this will enable your body to better store the warmth. Afterwards, you can take a lukewarm shower and drink plenty of water!

Tip
Our guests can use the Physiotherm infrared cabin free of charge.

After a restful sauna session, the brine grotto, ice fountain, Kneipp foot basin and luxury showers ensure that you are cooled down and refreshed. Experience a wonderful, invigorating tingle on your skin when you rub it with ice after being in the sauna. This serves to stimulate your circulation once more, as well as to strengthen your immune system. Following this, you can wonderfully relax in our tepidarium.

Contrast foot baths as per J. S. Kneipp’s method

Sebastian Kneipp was well aware of the fact that “water is life”. Cold water flows when the lever on the fountain is moved to the right, and warm water flows when it is moved to the left.

Begin with both feet in the warm basin. After approx. 5 minutes, switch your feet over to the cold basin. Keep them there for approx. 10 seconds. Depending on your own sense of well-being, you can repeat this process (from warm to cold) approx. 1-3 times—ending with your feet in the cold basin.

The interplay of warm and cold between the two foot baths serves to harmonise the body, mind and spirit are harmonised, invigorate tired feet, stimulate the circulation, and train the blood vessels. This also works on the organs in the pelvic cavity, as well as on the nasopharynx.

Kneipp basin
Experience a very special kind of reflexology massage; one which activates the body’s ability to heal itself. Do your best impression of a wading bird and make your way through a water basin filled with loose stones. In doing so, make sure that you lift your feet out of the water with every step and then slowly submerge them again. You are accompanied by an invigorating flurry of bubbles, activated by a light sensor at the entrance point.

The cold water stimulates the metabolism, supports blood circulation and helps condition the body.

Tip
Not suitable for guests with arterial complaints, open wounds or flu-like infections.

Temperature: approx. 38 °C
Air humidity: approx. 20%
06:30 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.

Due to their soft radiation of heat, the heated benches, heated loungers and stone or ceramic walls and floors have a direct and soothing effect on the body. Enjoy our pleasantly warm tepidarium and relax on our heated loungers in an atmosphere which has a fantastic effect on the mind and which invites you to dream. Let yourself be enchanted with relaxing music from the headphones provided.

The tepidarium can also be called the regeneration room. Here, you can recuperate after a long illness or prevent colds. Thanks to the mild temperature and the low air humidity, the immune system is strengthened without putting any strain on the circulation.

Please use your towel as a support for your body and neck.

You can stay for an unlimited time in this temperature range.

Tip
Our tepidarium is the perfect place to relax after a sauna infusion.

Luxury showers
In this special type of shower, you can experience a selection of tropically warm or cold effects with soothing and stimulating lighting and fragrance effects, as well as natural sounds. For example, choose between steady rain, tropical rain or mist.

“Cosy wall” shower
Experience a pleasantly-heated “waterfall” which flows down against a warm wall. You stand with your back against the wall and receive a gentle massage from the water as it flows onto you. This process can be repeated as often as you would like.

The high concentration of salt in this unique grotto is created by brine, which constantly drops onto the walls in the outdoor area via bundles of brushwood. A particular source of relief for your respiratory organs.

Recommended use
After a visit to one of our saunas, or simply just for some relaxation on the side, enter our open-air outdoor brine grotto, close your eyes, and take a deep breath.

Tip
Problems concentrating, tiredness, frequent colds, headaches and a drop in performance could be signs of a lack of oxygen. An increased oxygen supply increases performance and general well-being. This is why we recommend our oxygen therapy “Oxygen – the elixir of life”

Duration: approx. 20 minutes / Price:
1 oxygen treatment incl. vitamins € 25.00
6 treatments incl. vitamins € 140.00
10 treatments incl. vitamins € 199.00

“For the love of your health” drinking fountain
Refresh yourself with some well-chilled local Harz water from our refreshing drinking fountain.

“Pure tingling” ice fountain
After a session in the sauna or steam bath, rub your warm body with ice chips from the ice fountain. This process can be repeated as often as you would like.

It is exactly this abrupt coming-together of heated skin and slowly-melting ice which define the typical sauna feeling. The blood vessels in the upper layers of the skin reflexively contract, only to subsequently expand once more in a cosy, tingling sensation. After being in the sauna, this cold shock effect strengthens not only your circulation, but also stimulates your metabolism.

How to use a sauna correctly:

  • Make sure you leave at least 2 hours for the whole process
  • Bring 2 sauna towels, slippers
  • Do not enter the sauna in swimwear
  • Remove jewellery or watches, as these absorb heat very easily
  • Do not use immediately after eating
  • Make sure to drink enough fluids before using the sauna (preferably still water)
  • After you have taken a warm shower, have thoroughly dried yourself and have warmed up your feet, you can enter our sauna complex.
  • Please do not forget to place a towel underneath you; sweat damages the wood
  • Depending on your personal tolerance, sweat and feel good for approx. 8 to 15 minutes
  • During your first visit to the sauna, we recommend starting at the bottom-most bench and, after approx. 5 minutes, moving up to the next row of benches
  • If you have chosen to lie down in the sauna, sit up for the last 1-2 minutes in order to stabilise your circulation
  • Cool down at the ice fountain. In doing so, begin far away from the heart. This means cooling off the arms and legs first, then the torso and the entire body
  • Get some fresh air in our outdoor brine grotto—exhale powerfully and inhale gently
  • Refresh yourself in the Kneipp basin or in our contrast foot baths
  • Shower off in one of our luxury showers
  • Unwind and relax in the tepidarium (relaxation area) for approximately twice as long as you were in the sauna
  • We recommend a soothing full-body massage in our RoWital Health & Beauty Center before your next visit to the sauna
  • carry out the 2nd and 3rd sessions in the same manner as the first. We do not recommend more than 3 sauna sessions in a row
  • While in the saunas, we recommend that you do little talking. This is because the air only contains an amount of oxygen equivalent to that at 2500 m altitude, and because talking hinders both your own relaxation as well as that of the other guests
  • Only begin to make up for the amount of water which you have lost after you have completely finished using the sauna (preferably with still mineral water)
  • If you drink between the individual sessions, you lower the excretion rate of toxins and thus the quality of the overall cleansing effect

We recommend that guests with the following symptoms only use the sauna after speaking with their doctor:

  • fever or cold, acute inflammation of the internal organs
  • acute asthma, epilepsy
  • serious cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, varicose veins
  • acute migraines, cancers, hyperthyroidism
